Matthew Townshend Productions Ltd (mtp) and the First Garden City Heritage Museum in Letchworth Garden City present a lively and focussed participative Drama session for Key Stages 1 & 2, looking at healthy eating and physical exercise.
Swimming With Miss Lawrence will introduce children to Miss 'Annie' Lawrence, an eccentric but much loved and respected pioneer in the early years of the world's first Garden City at Letchworth in Hertfordshire.
Classroom resources (4.5MB PDF) can be downloaded HERE.
Founder of the extraordinary open-air school at the Cloisters, Miss Lawrence was a firm believer in the balance of work and play, fresh air and exercise and a healthy diet. Many children were taught by her to swim in the murky waters of the Cloisters open - air pool.
During the fully interactive performance, Miss Lawrence organises the children in a range of funny and exciting physical games and challenges them to explain to her the benefits of walking or cycling rather than coming to school by car; the importance of sport and exercise, and to share their learning about the food we eat and where it comes from. Participation in Swimming with Miss Lawrence can be used to support programmes of study in PE and PSHE and to develop existing or planned healthy school initiatives.
